Patchouli Essential Oil (pogestomon patchouli) is steam distilled from the leaves and has a heady, exotic fragrance.During the Victorian era, dried Patchouli leaves were placed in with Indian cashmere shawls to protect them from moths.
In the 1960's it was a very fashionable oil, hense its name 'Hippy Juice.'
Patchouli is often used as a base fixative in exotic oriental perfumes because of its deep, musky note.
Being a base note its aroma lingers for a long time and unlike most essential oils Patchouli actually improves with age.
