Rose Wood Essential Oil (aniba rosaeaodora) is steam distilled from the heartwood of the tree,and has a sweet, woody aroma. This oil is also known as 'Bois de Rose.'
To protect this species from extinction the Brazilian government has brought in legislation for farmers to plant a new tree for each one they fell.
Rose Wood was a popular wood for French cabinet making but now it is mostly used in Japan for making chopsticks.
