Valerian Root Essential Oil (valeriana officinalis) is steam distilled from the root.Valerian is derived from the Latin 'valere' meaning to be healthy or strong. Cats seem to love it as they find it as intoxicating as catnip, and for us, a very good oil to use at night.
Valerian hasn't got a particularly pleasant aroma, in fact, I do remember it being compared to dirty socks, but all that aside it is a very powerful oil.
