Blending

BLENDING.

When blending oils at home we recommend you don’t use more than 3 or 4 essential oils in one particular blend and no more than a 2% dilution – for children or frail people no stronger than 1%.

Always check the precautions before use and if in any doubt contact ourselves or a professional aromatherapist.

If you have any medical condition, please ask your G.P. for their advice before use.

(eg. 50ml. Carrier Oil - 10 drops essential oil =1%
20 drops essential oil =2%.

Essential oils are categorised into three notes : Top notes. Middle notes. Base notes. These notes measure the evaporation rates of the oils.

Top Notes : 24hrs. eg. Cajuput. Lemon. Bergamot.

Middle Notes : 2-3 days eg.Black Pepper. Geranium. Lavender.

Base Notes : Up to 7 days. Cedarwood. Sandalwood. Vetivert.

Some aromatherapists blend their oils according to the notes of the essential oils – they believe this to create a balanced synergistic blend . Others prefer to blend resins with spices, flowers with herbs and some select essential oils that suit the condition / conditions they are treating – all are effective and beneficial.

PREGNANCY.

For the first three months of pregnancy Celestial Designs would recommend no essential oils whatsoever, should be used.

After this period we would then only recommend the use of Neroli and Mandarin throughout the pregnancy and to be used in very minute quantities – 0-5% essential oil to your chosen carrier oil. Neroli and Mandarin may be used together or separately. (Mandarin can be helpful with morning sickness, just add a couple of drops to a vaporizer).

Massage during pregnancy can be very relaxing and reassuring. The carrier oils will look after and condition the skin as well as helping to restore the elasticity of the skin which will help to prevent stretch marks. A good combination for this would be : Camellia as the main ingredient blended with 5% Vitamin E Oil and 5% Carrot – a luxurious formulation that keeps your skin, soft, smooth and hydrated. Massage into the abdomen and breasts right through your pregnancy – or try Celestial Design’ Rich Monoi Moisturising Cream.

LABOUR.

During labour many oils can be used to make giving birth a little easier.

We recommend a 1% blend of Jasmin which helps to strengthen contractions and ease pain, Clary Sage will encourage relaxation, Lavender relieves pain and helps with a speedier delivery, Rose an excellent tonic for the womb and encourages relaxation and Nutmeg which will strengthen contractions.

After choosing and blending your oils massage into lower back during labour.
